Support Measures for Moroccan Nationals Affected by Earthquake

In response to the recent devastating earthquake in Morocco, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is taking significant steps to assist those impacted. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, special considerations are being extended to individuals with temporary and permanent residence applications, prioritizing those affected by the earthquake.

Priority Processing for Residence Applications: As of September 8, 2023, IRCC is diligently processing temporary and permanent residence applications submitted on or before this date. This priority processing extends to visitor visa applications for immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, as well as ongoing applications for refugee resettlement.

Facilitating Stay Extensions for Moroccan Nationals in Canada: Effective October 19, 2023, Moroccan nationals currently in Canada have the opportunity to extend their stay for study, work, or family visits without any associated fees. These measures aim to provide flexibility for eligible individuals who were in Canada at the time of the earthquake, allowing for streamlined processes to extend their temporary status or transition between temporary streams.

Waiver of Passport Requirement for Permanent Residency: Understanding the challenges faced by those who may have lost their travel documents in the earthquake, IRCC is waiving the requirement to hold a passport or travel document for the approval of a permanent resident visa to come to Canada.

Fee Waivers for Returning Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents: To further alleviate the burdens faced by Canadian citizens and permanent residents from Morocco, IRCC is implementing fee waivers for temporary passports, limited-validity passports, emergency travel documents, Canadian citizenship certificates, and permanent resident travel documents. These measures aim to facilitate the return of affected individuals to Canada during this challenging period.

These compassionate measures will be in effect from October 19, 2023, to March 12, 2024, providing crucial support to those navigating the aftermath of the earthquake. Our commitment to aiding and facilitating the well-being of individuals affected by unforeseen circumstances remains unwavering.
